Reflective practice, to me, means cultivating awareness through openness, honesty, and a commitment to noticing experience with as little bias as possible. It is an ongoing process of turning toward my inner and outer experience with curiosity and noticing inner thins like judgements.
Openness, in this context, means willingness. It is the willingness to observe my thoughts, feelings, and behaviours through critical reflection, and to stay present with what I notice even when it feels uncomfortable or uncertain. This openness allows learning to emerge from experience, rather than fixing to the automatic patterns of my personality.
A learning portfolio supports reflective practice by providing a dedicated space to slow down and make sense of learning as it unfolds. By documenting experiences, thoughts, and reflections over time, the portfolio helps turn lived experience into insight. It allows me to notice patterns, track growth, and integrate learning in a way that supports both personal development and professional practice.
