Reflection on Values Mapping

3.3 Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)

By taking the time to really think about what matters to me, I’ve noticed how much my life is guided by values like honesty, presence, compassion, and curiosity. Mapping this out helped me see where my daily choices align with these values and where I sometimes drift toward distractions or goal-chasing that doesn’t serve me. It also reminded me that living according to my values is ongoing it’s not about being perfect but about noticing and returning to what truly matters. I also notice the places I’d like to live closer to my values. Like having time to do the basic things I used to do before I started studying. Just taking a walk without thinking if study and commitments. And folding my washing which is starting to like up. Spending time in my vegi patch etc..

I’ve learned that using specific exercises like this brings clarity. It makes abstract ideas about values more concrete and helps me see my life from a bigger perspective. I can imagine using similar exercises with clients: it encourages self-awareness, helps them connect to what’s meaningful, and supports them in making choices that align with their own values rather than just external pressures or achievements. It’s practical, reflective, and a way to guide people toward a life that feels authentic and purposeful.
