Questions
How do you see the therapist applying the theory in practice?
He mirrors acceptance and transparency. He’s completely accepting. And is honest about not being able to tell her what to do. Listening, understands her. She immediately feels at ease about speaking about her intimate life. He names the feelings she’s expressing. And gives space for her vulnerability. He reflects that he “doesn’t want to let her stew in her feeling”, his immediate honesty brings in trust and a deeper connectivity and appreciation.
Is it working for the client?
Provide evidence to support your answer
Yes the client is deepening in to trust of the field, and Rogers, in turn this causes her some sense of her own trust. She’s trusting her own honesty and her own disclosure. He is honest about wanting to get inside her understanding by asking and getting a better picture of her situation. In doing so he’s becoming more congruent with understanding her position.
What did you find most interesting?
It’s interesting to me that Rogers is in a position of humility, he shows that he’s learning about the expert by listening and enquiring. By repeating back to the client what he has understood
This brings him in to her position more deeply. He’s offering the safety of the space to explore is herself. And his interventions are directed toward her seeing her self, this deepens her inquiry in self acceptance. She understand that this happens naturally. He repeats you want to accept yourself when you think you’ve done something wrong. She wants to know why he thinks something is wrong and why she thinks something is wrong. He repeats her words, story, situation back so she can feel her feelings. He sketches it out the way she can really gain a sense of what the “other” would say. This takes her to the point that she comes to her self, she can then trust she has the answers within herself. The story points to her self discovery of learning she can make decisions herself.
Find examples of:

He is completely allied to her, creating a safe, secure space that resonates further that she can share her full truth. And that that involves difficult feelings
- Unconditional positive regard
He shows her that she has the power and ability to be truky her self, and that that’s worthwhile. He states the reality and that he is there with her. That she is worthy of her own
- Congruence
Can I be real in the relationship. Genuineness is the quality is lie to have, congruence, what I experience in side is present in my awareness and comes out in my communication. A transparency, thatbyhere would be nothing hidden. Will I find myself caring. Spontaneous praising of this persona as an individual. Presence. Can I see the world through her eyes. Know how it feels to be her, in the feelings that are under the surface. Entering her world bring understanding.
